Wind Works Long Island Reinforces Support on Long Island for Development of the South Fork Wind Farm

EAST HAMPTON, L.I., May 21, 2020—In response to the Citizens for Preservation of Wainscott’s latest attempt to undermine the South Fork Wind Farm project, the Wind Works Long Island coalition, including two dozen local area and environmental advocacy organizations, issued the following statement:

"Offshore wind projects, including the South Fork Wind Farm, mean more local jobs and less reliance on antiquated fossil fuels. While the overwhelming majority of local residents who actually live in our communities year-round support this project, a small group of second-homeowners will try every trick to stop it.

"Support for the current landing site and cable placement plan has been clearly evident throughout multiple public hearings, last year’s election, and the most recent vote by the East Hampton Town Board just a few months ago. The only thing that the Citizens for the Preservation of Wainscott want to preserve is their own convenience. That will come at the expense of much needed green job creation, stabilizing energy costs and clean renewable energy for the rest of us."
